Guan spent the first ten years of his professional career in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) industry honing his craft in project management and sales, particularly in concept selling, for a host of proprietary exhibitions and conferences. To pull off mega events, it required the cooperation, collaboration, and often times, the adeptness to harness the abilities of multiple parties including suppliers, contractors, media partners, sponsors and participants.
The latter decade was spent at the International Council of Shopping Centers, Inc., where, as the Managing Director for the Asia-Pacific region presented an even greater opportunity to construct networks of partnerships, agencies and strong bonds throughout the region. This included managing board members, engaging their individual strengths, building consensus and occasionally lobbying for a particular interest.
In 2017, Guan made the switch to corporate training, facilitation and coaching. Since then he has been key in delivering programmes on Service Excellence to the hospitality industry, assisted in developing an in-house curriculum for in-flight sales for a major low-cost carrier and was part of a team to facilitate and coach over 1,000 staff from a major real estate developer in the areas of Resilience, Communications and Management.
Guan has since designed and developed comprehensive programmes on the topic of Influencing and in the areas of Systems Thinking, Leadership and Positive Organisational Behaviour.
His years spent in the corporate world were years spent honing the areas of communications, presentation, negotiation, relationship building and the importance of appealing to the heart and mind. What has resulted is a nuanced practice of the art and science of relating to people.
A graduate from the National University of Singapore with a BA (Hon) in Political Science, Guan has continued to pursue a passion for life-long learning, as a Certified Master Performance Coach and as an Action Learning Coach.
